India exports leather to more than 50 countries. USA, Germany, the UK, Italy, France, Spain, Netherlands, China, Belgium, UAE, Australia, Poland, Hong Kong, Denmark, Canada, Vietnam and Portugal are among the top importers of leather and leather products from India. The top 15 countries account for about 79.57% of the total exports.
USA is the largest importer of leather and leather products from India and accounted for 23.77% of the country’s total exports during April 2021-March 2022. Germany and the UK accounted for 11% and 9.5% of the exports during the same period.
During the year 2021-22, the total export of leather products to USA was valued at US$ 1.16 billion, an increase of 80% from the previous year. During the same period, Germany and the UK imported leather and leather products worth US$ 0.54 billion and US$ 0.46 billion from India, respectively.
Italy, France and Netherlands together accounted for 17.6% of total leather exports from India, with their import values at US$ 0.29 billion, US$ 0.28 billion and US$ 0.22 billion. The exports to Canada, Mexico, Turkey and Singapore increased by 70%, 83%, 45% and 135% during 2021-22 Y-o-Y, respectively.
